Lightning Shielding Analysis

Lightning and Transient Analysis
To analyze the transient performance of the substation during a direct lightning strike to the shielding system or any metallic structure, then you need MultiFields. The program computes the total induced voltage, including the common mode and the differential mode components both in the frequency domain and in the time-domain (transient). MultiFields can be used for a more detailed assessment of the effects of lightning on electrical systems. It allows you to determine precisely the time-domain potential differences that can develop in a system during a lightning strike (and possibly cause arcing and failures) as well as the performance of the grounding system during lighting events.

Lightning Shielding Analysis
The SESShield-3D program offers a simple and intuitive graphical user-interface that can be used to carry out a complete lightning shielding analysis for a system of arbitrary objects having various geometrical shapes. It can be used to design lightning shielding systems for complex environments such as substations, generating stations including building and transmission lines. With SESShield-3D, you can specify the geometry and electrical properties of the system through simple graphical commands; the program can also import CAD drawings in the form of DXF files. Other components of this module allow you to perform a lightning risk analysis based on the IEC-62305-2 standard and to perform a lighting shielding analysis based on the Electrogeometric Model (EGM) and associated Rolling Sphere Method (RSM) described in the IEEE and IEC standards.
